Girl Scouts of the USA

Cadette and Senior Climbing Adventure Badges

The Gunks (as they are known for short) is a world-renowned climbing destination and a perfect place for The Girl Scouts of the USA to earn their Cadette or Senior Climbing Adventure Badge.

Our guides can knowledgeably offer your scouts all of the information and coaching needed to learn and practice skills, have a wonderful day climbing, all while they earn their Cadet and Senior Climbing Merit Badge (based on current GS USA requirements).

But hang on one second! Our line of thinking changes a lot from what is considered “current GSUSA requirements” and what we are making available to your Scouts.

A bit of historical reference.

In March of 1912 Juliette Gordon Low wrote to the Camp Fire Girls inviting them to merge into the Girl Guides (today’s Girl Scouts of the USA). James E. West who helped form the CFG’s and was chief executive of the Boy Scouts of America and a strong proponent of [strict gender roles] declined. Mr. West considered many of the Girl Guides activities to be gender-inappropriate, and he was concerned that the public would question the masculinity of the Boy Scouts if the girls participated in similar activities. This is 2022 and that line of thinking in 1912 makes my skin crawl.

As a guide service owner who employs professional female guides (who are very strong role models) I can attest that women can do anything at the cliffs (and anywhere in the world) that men can and on uncountable occasions so much better! So why do the Merit Badges between the GSUSA and the BSA differ?

We make sure the same material is covered earning the Climbing adventure badge for the GSUSA as do the BSA for their Climbing Merit Badge.

This is a opportunity to introduce everyone to outdoor rock while practicing fundamental rock climbing skills. These skills are transferable to many areas of a growing young woman’s life: resourcefulness, teamwork, self reliance, mindfulness and confidence just to name a few.

Our guide service opens up a whole new world of adventure for the GSUSA and will certainly increase their appreciation of the outdoors while exposing them to what it takes to climb confidently.

We’ll provide all the gear, instruction, safety systems and supervision. All you need is to show up!

For this badge it is written:

Cadette and Senior Climbing Adventure

Choose your adventure: Advance your rock-climbing skills on an outdoor climbing trip.

  1. Choose your outdoor adventure

  2. Plan and prepare

  3. Gather your gear

  4. Set a goal and train for your adventure

  5. Go on your outdoor adventure ~ this is how we shine as a guide service. This would be very difficult for most as climbing is very gear intensive. Let us facilitate and participants excel.

It would be my pleasure to meet with your troop one evening a set time period ahead of our day together as an expert to assist anyone attending satisfy criteria 1 through 4 above. We as a group can do a Q&A regarding ways to excel outdoors. Number 5 is our day together.

To be better prepared and able to satisfy what is asked to earn this badge I would guess most would feel more comfortable if they had a broader idea of what they are going to experience and all possibilities during our time together.

We can do this! Please Contact Us to discuss a detailed itinerary, available dates and how affordable we can make our day together!
