Introduction to the Outdoors (Sport Climbing)
Objective: To feel comfortable visiting a climbing destination and have the knowledge to succeed “lead climbing” sport routes.
Duration: 1 day
Price: $370.00 total. Two people Maximum per Guide.
As the name suggests this one day course is for beginners who have climbing experience indoors but very limited (if any) experience outdoors on real stone. This course is meant to bridge the gap between indoor and outdoor climbing, providing the knowledge and skills necessary to feel safe and comfortable in a new environment.
Sport lead climbing is a natural progression for many who started indoors and desire to advance their climbing skills to a natural setting.
This course will be taught at a 2:1 ratio maximum. We as a guide service limit the ratio to no more than two climbers to one guide as any more participants would prevent us from covering all the material in a timely manner while gauging performance.
Prerequisites/Requirements:
General understanding of top-roping vs. lead climbing
Ability to tie yourself to the rope
Ability to belay on a gri-gri or plated device
A positive attitude and willingness to step outside one’s comfort zone
Introduction to the Outdoors (Sport Climbing) is a slightly advanced rock climbing instructional clinic that covers all the skills necessary to give any participant a safe inauguration to lead climbing on real rock. This clinic is taught for climber’s that want to advance their expertise in the task of learning how to safely ascend a bolted route, to gain technique and how climbing outside differs from indoors, setting up a safe top-rope on a fixed anchor equalized and secure, belaying climbers of differing weights from the ground and lastly cleaning the anchor safely and lowering to the ground. At the end of this day you will be leading safely and confidently. This course will be teaching all the most modern techniques up to the standards of the Professional Climbing Guides Institute as of 2021.
