Come visit Las Peñas de Dexcaní also known as Jilotepec and spend the day rock climbing in an oak forest breathing the incredibly fresh air and climbing unforgettable routes.
Climb deep within an old growth oak forest
Las Peñas de Dexcaní is the result of an ancient volcano erupting expelling a huge dust cloud into the atmosphere which settled to form these beautiful cliffs of consolidated ash and cobbles. Imagine climbing within the largest reserve of oak trees in the state of Mexico high on the side of a mountain at 10,500’ of elevation. The experience of sport climbing this overhanging paradise of welded tuff is absolutely unique unto itself. Between the condensed nature of the cliff sections and the high saturation of quality routes Las Peñas de Dexcaní (Jilotepec) creates an experience like no other found on the Northern Continent. SouthernXposure Guides can accommodate inexperienced climbers wanting to climb gorgeous moderates or pebble pinching experts looking to get on the hardest climbs in Mexico.
Explore the town of Jilotepec
Jilotepec de Molina is the nearest town to Las Penas de Dexcani (las Peñas Jilotepec) and is easily reached by car or taxi from the cliffs. There are several delicious sit-down restaurants in town as well as many taco stands and even a Chinese Buffet that rivals anything in Chinatown, NY.
