Self Rescue
Objective: Self sufficiency when the unexpected happens.
Duration: 3 days
Price: TBD
This Self Rescue for Climbers program is an intensive three day seminar that covers improvised multi-pitch rock rescue techniques. Within this technical course participants will be taught high angle rope rescue skills for anyone venturing above seventy meters in height (whether they are leading the pitch or climbing second). Our specific course addresses what a climber can do with the minimal gear that is normally carried when venturing into the mountains climbing.
SouthernXposure Climbing School has the desire to teach all climbers the systems to be able to emulate the same techniques that a Search and Rescue crew employ with nothing more than a traditional rack, prussic, and rope.
Our professional guides emphasize and teach the practical aspects of technical rock rescue from hauling their partner through a move to evacuating a seriously injured climber who needs to be lowered down tricky multi-pitch terrain with assistance.
Our participants will study, learn and implement a series of systems including escaping the belay, load transfers, the various uses of the prussic, hauling a second, lowering a second with an auto-locking device, rescue anchors, and tandem rappels. All participants will apply everything learned to a variety of practical real life scenarios with plenty of time to practice. Individuals who complete this rescue program should feel comfortable with what they have learned and be able to apply these newly understood skills to a wide array of complex high angle problems.
